Case Studies

Sydney 2005

Picture
In my season preview of 2005, Sydney came up as the team with the best balanced list. It had a good wave of players in each age group, and their depth in the "Junior" and "Development" groups allowed them to remain in a premiership window until the early 2010s.

Geelong 2007

Picture
This was a preview that I did for Geelong at the beginning of the 2007 season. They clearly had the best and most balanced list. You'll also see that I was running experiments with the model at that time.

Richmond 2016

Picture
This was the Richmond list at the end of 2016. Despite a season that was one step back, the list was in very good shape, and had a wave of players in each age group. The addition of Nankervis, Prestia and Caddy, all developing players from other clubs, put the icing on the cake. The depth of each wave gave Richmond their window from 2017 to 2020, their Reserves (then Coburg) also a Grand Final appearance in 2017, and a premiership in 2019.
